"On April 19, the Catholic community of Honolulu experienced a significant day with the ordination of Soane Francis Siua sscc as a deacon at St. Patrick’s Parish.
The ceremony was presided over by Bishop Larry Silva, who highlighted during the homily the vocational journey of the new deacon, comparing it to that of the early disciples in the biblical account of the road to Emmaus. According to the prelate, although Soane may not always have recognized the presence of Jesus in his life, He was always there, guiding his vocation.
Soane made his temporary profession in 2019 and pronounced his perpetual vows in 2025. He is currently completing his final year of formation at the Pacific Regional Seminary and is expected to be ordained to the priesthood later this year in Texas.
Originally from the village of Pea in Tongatapu, with family roots in Lapaha, Soane comes from a family of seven children and is the fifth. He received his primary education at Marist St. Francis in American Samoa and his secondary education at Tonga High School.
In his message, Bishop Silva emphasized that, as a deacon and future priest, Soane will have the mission of proclaiming the Word of God and setting the hearts of the faithful on fire, just as Jesus did with the disciples on the road to Emmaus."
