Does the farmer cling to last year’s seed?
Or mourn the loss of yesterday’s harvest?
He has learned to let go freely
Confident that today’s apparent loss
Will tomorrow bear abundant fruit.
Teach me, O Lord, to let go
And let nature take its course.
All you have given me will one day
Be given back to you.
All you have loaned me for a time
My breath, my body, my life
Must return if, like the seed,
It is to bear abundant fruit.
Until that day, help me
to use your gifts
Wisely and well
That others may see your hand
In the world and in their lives.
You let your Son fall to the earth
And die. And rise! And see!
The Earth is now ripe for harvest!
