To Tell The Truth

“Tell the truth and shame the devil.” When I was a growing boy in the west of Ireland, a few moons ago, this was one of our moral mottos. As I grew into adulthood, I tried to live by this motto though this was not always easy. In the course of the years I arrived at the sense, if not the conclusion, that those who easily and frequently accuse others of lying do so because they themselves have a tendency to bend the truth and those who have the tendency to accuse others of being racist, do so because deep down they recognize themselves as having racist leanings. I call this, projection of one’s own flaws onto another.
While a youngster on a small farm in County Galway, I did my share of taking the shovel to cow and horse manure, not to mention a few others. Now in my 75th year, I can say that in all my life I have never experienced so much of the same filth as has been recently spewed by members of our US Senate including one of our Hawaiian Senators. They have been absolutely shameless in doing so in order to defame another human being because they want to win at any price, even at the cost of the destruction of another human being’s reputation, regardless of the veracity or the falsehood of the accuser’s testimony. What hypocrisy! These have been aided and abetted by unscrupulous reporters who cannot tell their arses (that’s English/Irish) from their elbows and pundits who cannot even pass wind without looking for fifteen minutes of television attention. This is outrageous. This is calumny, as spelled out by the Eight Commandment. Check your bibles.
As a US citizen and a resident of the Hawaiian islands, and a preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I say that such people should not be allowed to serve us in Washington as Senators or as Representors, and I call for those who have led or participated in this dirty political lynching be investigated, and brought to justice if guilty. Indeed, to tell the truth, it would be better for them ‘to face the music’ in the here and now, rather than on that great judgement day when the die will already be cast and no lawyer, regardless how brilliant, can save them. So tell the truth now and shame the devil. Aloha.
